YOGA LESSONS AT THE ÓBIDOS LAGOON
Yoga goes hand in hand with almost any other sport. It is especially beneficial for anyone who participates in water sports for long hours over many days. When we are in the water, whether kitesurfing or sailing, our mind sometimes does not register the amount of strain and tension we put into our bodies when we are engaged in adrenaline sports and distracted by the fun of it as opposed to a gym workout, where we are conscious of when and where we are applying tension. So, the relief we feel when we take the time to condition and nourish our bodies can be greatly rewarding after an intense session on the water. Not only that, incorporating yoga into your active lifestyle can help you build flexibility and strength and a better understanding of your body to allow you to perform better when you are doing your favorite sports.
We invite you to enhance your kitesurf holiday by joining us in this rejuvenating experience. These yoga classes combine a blend of Hatha and Vinyasa - where movement is coordinated with the breath as we flow through a series of poses, sometimes pausing in one pose for several breaths to explore its deepening release and achieve the power of restoration. The flows will focus on alignment and posture, so that you can reconnect with your body’s natural way of being; finding balance between body and mind. The intention for this class is that you come out afterward feeling ultimately centered, and more upright.
Our classes will take place in various locations around the area; weather permitting, a scenic spot overlooking the lagoon, or in the outdoor pool area at the guesthouse for your convenience.
Learning about your body and what feels good, means you will become more attuned to it when something is wrong. Among various benefits of developing this kind of self-awareness, a very welcome one is that this self-awareness will start trickling into other physical aspects of your daily life; you will start noticing and correcting poor posture more often. You would be surprised by how often we unknowingly (and unnecessarily) hold tension in our shoulders and forget to actively pull them down away from our ears, even when performing as simple a task as folding laundry (or reading this page). If you take on the regular practice of yoga, here’s a word of warning: you might feel more often inclined to do yoga when you feel aches and pains so you’ll have to start making more time for this practice, and worse; you might enjoy it.
Are you currently slouched over while reading this page? Take a few moments now to sit up straight, drop your shoulders and take a deep breath in until your lungs are completely full. Next, exhale for twice as long as it took you to inhale, until your lungs are completely empty, before returning to a neutral breath.
Feel better? What are you waiting for? See you on the mat in our tranquil, little piece of paradise.
